As the man charged with leading the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA), Amr Al Dabbagh wields a huge amount of influence on the kingdom’s development. His agency is charged with overseeing the multibillion-dollar construction of Saudi’s six Economic City development: King Abdullah Economic City, Knowledge Economic City near Medina, Prince Abdulaziz bin Mousaed Economic City, Hail Economic City and Jazan Economic City. Together the developments are expected to house millions of people and form a considerable fraction of Saudi’s economic portfolio. The kingdom is hoping that by 2020 the cities will have added over $150bn to the Saudi GDP, in addition to creating some 1.5 million jobs.

Prior to his role at SAGIA Al Dabbagh was, for two consecutive four-year terms, a member of the Regional Council in Mecca region of Saudi Arabia.

Born in 1966, Al Dabbagh served as the president and CEO of the Dabbagh Group from 1991 to 2004. Throughout that period the group experienced phenomenal growth in each of its five core areas of operation: telecommunications, media and technology, energy, food, real estate development and financial services.

Al Dabbagh is a member of the World Economic Forum as well as the Middle East Regional Advisory Board of the London Business School.

He has also previously served as a board member of the Harvard Institute for Social and Economic Policy in the Middle East at the John F Kennedy School of Government; as a member of the Young Presidents’ Organisation and as a member of the advisory board of the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector.
