Lebanese architect Mounir Khatib founded the Consolidated Engineering Company in Beirut in 1959. Four years later he joined forces with Dr Zuheir Alami to become the Consolidated Engineering Company - Khatib & Alami (K&A).

The firm, which offers services covering architecture, planning, electrical utilities, transportation and environmental, quickly grew and by 1980 was operating in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman and Bahrain. By 1990, it had expanded its operations to include all GCC countries as well as other Arab countries, and between 2005 and 2007 extended its international presence to include markets in Kuwait, Iraq, Belgium, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the US. Today, the firm employs over 2,900 architects, engineers, technicians and administrators.

Since 1984 the K&A has been continuously ranked among the top 100 international design firms as published by Engineering News Record (ENR). Planning projects include Dubai Silicon Oasis and Dubai Investments Park while architecture projects include the Fairmont Hotel Dubai, Hilton Hotel in Mecca and Zayed University Abu Dhabi Campus.

In addition to his work with K&A, Khatib also taught at the faculty of Engineering and Architecture at the American University of Beirut from1957 to 1975. In 2003, he was honoured with Lebanon’s prestigious Order of the Cedars.
