As CEO of Etihad Airways, James Hogan’s job is to establish the air links that will help build Abu Dhabi into a global tourism and leisure hub. The airline now connects the UAE capital to almost 60 cities, with flights to Cape Town and Chicago added in recent weeks.

To support this rapid expansion, Etihad has invested heavily in aircraft and infrastructure. In 2008 Hogan signed one of the largest aircraft orders in commercial aviation history for up to 205 aircraft worth some US $43 billion.

This alone makes him a worthy candidate for inclusion in the Power 50, but then in June 2009, Etihad’s CEO closed the biggest engine deal in commercial aviation history worth some $14 billion.

Hogan brings to the Abu Dhabi-based airline more than 30 years of travel industry experience, having held senior positions with bmi, Hertz, Forte Hotels and Gulf Air.
