One the region’s leading hoteliers, Gerald Lawless has worked at Jumeirah Group since June 1997 when he joined as managing director of the Dubai firm. And with eleven hotels in operation and twenty more under construction around the world, he’s certainly had his hands full.
Lawless has overseen the launch of some of the emirate’s most famous icons, such as the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and the Burj Al Arab Hotel. On the international side, the firm has also launched two hotels in London and one in New York, and the Jumeirah Group also has plans to open between three and four contemporary Venu hotels, the first of which will be built in Shanghai.
Elsewhere on the global stage, the Irishman is spearheading the group’s development of properties in the US Virgin Islands and Argentina.
In Jumeirah’s home market, Lawless has managed to keep room occupancies to a reasonable level to date, as demand in the emirate has tallied more closely with supply.
Prior to joining Jumeirah, Lawless spent 23 years with the Forte Hotels chain.
