British-born Ashish Joshi has been Sky News' Gulf correspondent, based in Dubai, since February 2009. The position might have initially been viewed as one of the network's quieter secondments, but Dubai's rapid growth and its subsequent real estate crash has seen Joshi's coverage of Dubai's debt crisis propelled to headline news in the UK.
Joshi also reported heavily from Thailand during the riots in Bangkok earlier this year, and was given rare access to the Tamil Tiger rebels in Sri Lanka.
Joshi joined Sky News in 2004 as a news reporter and covered a variety of subjects including the Pakistan earthquake, the Lebanon war and the 2005 World Cup. Prior to Sky he spent ten years at the Asian broadcaster ZEE TV as head of news and current affairs.
He was a New York Television Festival Awards finalist in the Best News Reporter/Correspondent Category and winner of a silver award for a series of documentaries on the aftermath of the Asian Tsunami.
He is due to return to the UK later this year.
