Dubai Metro

connectivity to and from Station is a basic problem I feel people will stay back as well lack of parking space near all the stations. Feeder bus services routes in the new Dubai area is not much effective, will I be motivated to walk 1 or 2 Kms in Summer to get a feeder bus to go to station, NO. RTA should run a smaller feeder busses rather than full sizes buses that too one after the other with only negligible passenger on the buses.
Secondly if the Metro is passing through the Airport why the luggage restriction on the Train, worldwide no operator deny Airtravels from the airport riding the Metro with luggage

Dubai Metro

Every project goes through certain teething problems in the beginning so is with Dubai Metro. As I see it this is one of the most advanced project launched in Dubai for which Dubai government must be commended. Once all the stations start functioning, this project will be a BIG HIT. There is no doubt in my mind, so do the people I come across say. Most people use cars out of necessity and not luxury. As far as queues for tickets are concerned these are minor problems which should be sorted out.

Give it another year

5.30pm Got taxi from Mirdif to Rashidiya Metro Station
5.45pm Tried to buy tickets from machine to avoid the hundreds of people at the ticket desk..would not accept my Dhs 50 notes (I had three, none worked). Eventually it worked with Dhs 10 notes.
6.00pm Got tickets. Tried to go through barrier. All barriers manually switched off, a few had staff. When we asked how long it would take from that point to get on a train we were told 40 minutes to one hour.
6.10 pm Left to get a taxi. No taxis at the Taxi Rank.
6.25 Got taxi after making a telephone call. Four arrived at the same time.
6.26 Decided to keep my car and use taxis for at least another year.

Dubai Metro

I think that Dubai Metro will prove to be a big success. The number of passengers wil improve further, when more publications i.e., metro maps, routes, Metro Bus points etc. are more available to public. Metro will ease the road traffic greatly.

Dubai Metro

I am confident that, once the full service is on i.e. Red & Green Line is operational, more and more residents would prefer to use Metro to save on costs and time. After all it is a master piece with great convenience.

My Metro is definately a Hit

There's no doubt the launch of Metro is a hit for the local residents of Dubai. Every baby grows with steps, and sure metro will rise to its great heights slowly when all other routes will work simultaneously. It has already shown a mounting success within very first days of launch and the journey of unman unit will be full of mans every time it start its journey.
Wishing a great success in time ahead...

Failed Connections

The Dubai Metro was a much awaited mode of transport in this great city, and although the RTA efforts are to be congratulated, two factors still remained unresolved. The First, a schedule for the remaining stations to be opened, only until then can we truly evaluate the success of the system. The Second, the feeder busses never seem to be there when you need them, nor is there an accurate indicator when they will arrive / depart. Launching the metro by opening the stations th

Had a great Experience

And would encourage all those doubters who haven't tried it to give it a go - stress free journey on Saturday afternoon - friendly onboard staff

Yes it might take a little longer to get where you want to go - but the stress factor is Zero - when was the last time any of us had that on the roads - people talking on the phone trying to get a Hummer round a roundabout one handed, Boy Racers speeding down SZR at 150kmh flashing you to get out the road (all from Abu Dhabi from what i can work out!) and Drivers driving HIACE vans so fast you fear they will flip in front of you.

Take the Metro and Ease the Stress - that's my suggestion :)

Well Done Dubai - those doubters can doubt - but the Metro is great!

Viability of the big parking at Nakheel Harbour

I feel that a similar parking to that created at Nakheel Harbour should be set up in Jebel Ali say 4000 spaces. The location of such a big parking at Nakheel Harbour does not make sense presently since the maximum traffic is for Jebel Ali and the present feeder routes are very weak for people to move within Jebel Ali.

Who and why someone would park at Nakheel harbour and where does one go from there is a million dollar question.

Metro Dubai

I think the metro will be a success and an economic leverage for the city as it will ease the traffic and transportation of public which will make Dubai more competitive for setting up business. I would use it, especially in During Winter, Fall, and Spring.

In Cairo the underground metro when it was added to the network of metro (some of it goes back to early 20th century) it helped a lot in connecting different parts of such large city. Dubai is going to see similar benefits except the seasonality of demand on the service due to fact it is above ground metro and hot weather during summer.

Re: Dubai Metro

Cars are and will be the best mode of transport in Dubai unless the governments starts to implement measures as taken by Singaporean government. Make the car mode as expensive as possible masses will autmatically switch over to Mass Rapid Transport System. Best way is make cars more expensive to buy, install more Salik across Dubai, and at the same time give better bus an train connectivity.

9-9-9-day-in-dubai-to-remember

Well, its September finally. Not that September doesn't come every year. and not that i am waiting for some thing like Sep 11 or even that i like the song by Frank Sinatra (September song 1965). Its September in Dubai and finally i am gonna see the Metro launch. Well, i have seen the track and station construction work from scratch till final stages from my office windows for almost 2 plus years. (and have suffered road diversion, less parking space etc..). But i am excited to see it finally launched. Dubai Metro, My city My Metro.. motto is much better than all others i have come across here and at least offers a sense of "My"....I hope you know what i mean.

Its very rare in Gulf countries, when you can say some thing is Mine...So, My Metro is mine is an excellent phrase. Offers a sense of belongings towards the city.

Anyways, back to Dubai Metro. The launch is on 9-9-9. with approx 10 stations and a couple of trains.

With sceptics around the corner arguing about the success (financial in nature) of Metro project. I think they infrastructure projects are usually made for long term development, increasing the landmark numbers, prestige and of course a sense of ultra modern technology entering our daily lives.

To all other critics of Metro, i would say only one thing.... This is a electric metro running in straight (and some times zig zag) tracks in a Desert... Yes.. Desert...Please at least appreciate the fact that Dubai is running a Metro in a desert , instead if Camels trains....

We look forward for the launch and pray for the success. Cheers, Dubai...and the rest of the crowd...
