@Expat

I totally agree with you. You are absolutely correct. Customer is NOT the KING here in the Middle East.

e-life

I agree with most of the comments. I'm actually convinced that similar problems will continue to appear in the future and that Etisalat has nothing to worry about as long as the market is being monopolized by them (of course du & Etisalat are one company).. As long as there is no real competition between telecom companies in the UAE the customer will always pay the heavy price... I believe Etisalat must be banned and forbidden from entering and operating within other markets like Egypt for example unless the UAE opens its market for fair competition and allow other service providers to enter the UAE market!!! I believe that we are being taken for granted since we have no choice.. It is very sad and unjust, I love the UAE and I hope to see it march forward not backward, because competition means more choices, better services, innovation, development and eventually higher client satisfaction for both locals and expats, competition means more love and respect for the UAE and its leadership, it means a healthier community, better country ratings globally, better tourism and economy.
I hope someone with authority reads my comment and takes action.
God bless the UAE

E-life or nothing!

I moved to another building in Dubai, Etisalat told me that Shamil was no longer available for new subscription, and that my only option was e-life (much more expensive)

E-life or nothing!

I have recently moved to a building on Sheikh Zayed Road, I wanted to keep my Shamil subscription but Etisalat said that they could only offer E-life (of course much more expensive!), and that they are not offering Al Shamil anymore, which they said will stay available to existing subscribers only.

@Oz

If it is cheaper and offers faster broadband bandwidth, then why did you refuse? I am trying to understand why would one not want faster internet even when it is priced cheaper than what they are paying now.

Not really

Etisalat calls me every week asking if I'd like to go for eLife, and I politely refuse. They then tell me how much I'm paying for my land line and Al Shamil, and then ask if eLife is better as it costs less and offer 'greater' bandwidth? I politely refuse again.

Etisalat Not pushing people for eLife.

I would like you guys to know that etisalat in not pushing people to go for eLife. The proof is, I applied for the same 2 months since. somebody contacted from etisalat to confirm if I had applied for the same - confirmed it. No real work done. Again I got a call and similar confirmation. No real work done.

So that that how it goes.

Mr JK, There is nothing wrong to the people other than u. If I don't need some service from Etisalt why should I buy & pay? I have been given the internet from my office and when I shift to new building I could not transfer the telephone line. I was told that they will only transfer our connection if I get e-life!.
Etisalat should keep options open for customers to choose what is required rather than forcing to take e life.

Forced Sale

In UAE, all consumers are forced to buy one thing or the other. Be it the fries(with no other option or reduced price) with the burger, or the premium package to watch important matches like world cup or the minimums imposed on various offers, definitely the suppliers/sellers are the KINGS. all the consumers can do is atleast whine on an open forum like AB and be self satisfied. Nothing is going to change in the customer's favour.. take it or take it.. you cannot leave it..

@JK

the debate here is , that Etisalat is forcing us to subscribe to e-life.
It is supposed to be the customers choice whether they want a "supposedly" faster & definitely more expensive connection.

We are all from this decade, where almost in every part of the world, "The Customer is The King"

You guys make me laugh

Someone here says he doesn't want fast internet, another says Etisalat is forcing them to move to elife? Why is everyone upset? Because it is cheaper and faster? My Lord, what is wrong with you people? Are you all from this decade? Do you do anything other than whine about everything? Are you those who hold up development?

Internet & Landline

It is true .... Etisalat forces its customers to take e-life.
We recently shifted our house & applied to etisalat to transfer our landline & internet connection to our new residence, they told us that we should upgrade to e-life.
even after we insisted that we are not interested in e-life as we dont need such high speeds for home use, we were told that they will only transfer our connection if we upgraded to e-life!
We were so frustrated by this that we decided to cancel the connection altogether!!

Al Shamil

Etisalat is definitely trying to push customers to opt for eLife. In their Business Centre in Al Khaleej Centre in Bur Dubai, they mentioned that they have stopped giving Al Shamil connection for all buildings that have been equipped with fiber optic cables. I was using Al Shamil earlier, but now forced to upgrade to eLife, though I can hardly see any difference in the speed. I am paying 110 AED more per month for using the same service. Though Etisalat has bundled a landline connection with eLife, I hardly use it and in fact don't need it at all. Etisalat should keep options open for customers who need a simple internet connection and should not force them to accept eLife.

elife

I too received a call from etisalat asking me to upgrade my current al shamil to elife and was explained on the benifits. The person at the other end of the line specifically mentto me that Al Shamil would be discountinued so its better to upgrade at this time of offer. I agreed, and since then there has been no update from etisalat. Reading all the other comments I need to check if the billing amount has been changed even though no upgraded service rendered

eLife

During the last week of August, we have opened an eLife account having just moved to Al Hamra Village. Technical team came to install couple of days later and all worked perfectly. Only days later, all of the services disappeared one after the other, also the internet. This is now almost one month ago.
When contacting Etisalat we always hear the same: the account has not yet been 'activated'. Besides having received a complaint number per SMS, we have received no call, no visit, no message ever since.
As described in the above article, receiving an overwhelming response to eLife is a great thing for Etislat, but then one also needs to be able to deliver properly...
