DOHALAND has signed a landmark agreement for QR 1.56 Billion with the joint venture of Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd - HBK Contracting Co. for the construction of the major buildings in Phase 1A of its signature project - Musheireb.


In a press conference held today at the Four Seasons Hotel, Doha, a delegation from Korea including H.E.See Jeong Chang, the Korean Ambassador to the State of Qatar, Mr. Joong Kyum Kim, President and CEO of Hyundai E&C, Shaikh Ali Bin Hamad K Al Thani, HBK Chairman and Managing Director, representatives from Bauer Qatar LLC and C.A.T International, were welcomed by the CEO of DOHALAND Eng. Issa M. Al Mohannadi.

As a Subsidiary of Qatar Foundation, DOHALAND's board members consist of high profile Qatari professionals directing the organization to be a reputed national brand with world class quality. The executive committee is led by H.E. Dr. Abdulla Al Kubaisi, Vice Chairperson of DOHALAND and Executive Director of Office of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Missned, Mr. Rashid Al Naimi, member of the Board at DOHALAND and Vice President of Administration for Qatar Foundation, Eng. Saad Al Muhannadi, Member of the Board at DOHALAND and Vice President of Capital Projects and Facilities of Qatar Foundation, in addition to Eng. Issa M. Al Mohannadi, Member of the Board and CEO of DOHALAND.

After the signing ceremony, DOHALAND team took the guests on a guided tour of the Knowledge Enrichment Center, moored at Doha Corniche.

The team of Hyundai and HBK brings together a world class contractor with a leading local contractor following a stringent pre-qualification process that enabled selection of suitably qualified contractors to tender competitively for the construction of the Amir Annex, Amiri Guard, National Archive Buildings and Cultural Centre of Phase 1 A of Musheireb project.

This award to the Consortium concludes the award of a total of QR 2.2 billion of the major construction packages for Phase 1A, the first of the five phases in the Musheireb project including other major contracts let to date for phase 1A such as:

The Enabling works awarded in 2009 to Bauer International Qatar LLC.

The Infrastructure works awarded to C.A.T. International, which includes a District Cooling Plant and 66 KV Substation.

Speaking of the official agreement Eng. Issa M. Al Mohannadi, CEO of DOHALAND, said, "An important element of DOHALAND's success story is our partners. DOHALAND's QR20bn 'Musheireb' project will be completed in five phases, with the first phased due for completion by 2012, and the entire project to be completed by 2016. Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, and Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony of DOHALAND's signature project, reinforcing the historical significance of the area.

Major Consultancy Service's agreements have also been executed with a number of International firms that include:

Time Qatar for Project Management.

Arup as Master Development Consultant and Infrastructure Consultant.

Allies and Morrison as Design Architect for Phase 1A.

Burns McDonnell as Executive Architect for Phase 1A.

Phase 1A of Musheireb covers the construction of the Diwan Amiri Quarter, which includes the Diwan Annex, Amiri Guard and the National Archive, plus a heritage quarter that includes the Eid Prayer Ground and four heritage houses.

The Musheireb site comprises approximately 35 hectares, bordered by Al Rayyan Road to the North, Jassim Bin Mohamed Street to the East, Musheireb Street to the South, and Al Diwan Street (part of Ring Road A) to the West. This mixed use development contains hotels, retail, residential, mosques, cultural, heritage, school and government buildings ranging from 3 to 30 stories.
