Last week, Saudi-German-Hospital-Dubai launched the formation of its interdisciplinary “Laparoscopic Surgery working group” program. Having the corporate name of “SGH-LAP”, this interdisciplinary program shall help SGH-Dubai to become a “center of excellence” for minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery in the region. “Laparoscopic surgery is proven to be less invasive in terms of surgical trauma, blood loss, recovery, cosmesis and patient satisfaction”, so Dr. Reem Osman, CEO of SGH-Dubai. In addition, the overall costs for many laparoscopic procedures are considered to be lower compared to open surgical procedures.
The main goal of the SGH-LAP is to improve the quality of laparoscopic operations in SGH-Dubai and to offer better service for the patients seeking minimally invasive operations. To reach this goal, experts from different specialties i.e. Surgery, Urology and Gynecology have joined into a working group. Some of the sophisticated laparoscopic procedures that are being offered to the patients in SGH-Dubai include obesity surgery, colon cancer, gall bladder, hernia, prostate cancer, kidney cancer, kidney cysts, hydronephrosis, varicocele, pelvic floor repair, hysterectomy, ectopic pregnancy, and ovarial cancer. In addition to performing many sophisticated laparoscopic procedures, the SGH-LAP will organize scientific meetings and clinical research on laparoscopic procedures and will held laparoscopic training workshops for teaching other surgeons. “Having the patient safety and satisfaction in mind, we want our patients to experience the clinical and socioeconomic benefits of minimally-invasive surgery in SGH-Dubai”, says Dr. Reem Osman.
