53 active submarine cable systems in the Arab World by end of 2016

The Arab Advisors Group released a new report, covering the existing and planned submarine cables with landing stations in Arab countries. By November 2015 the total number of active submarine cables reached 42 compared to 41 existing submarine cable systems by June 2014. The total number of active submarine cables is expected to reach 53 cable systems by end of 2016.

This report covers 53 active and planned submarine cable systems in 21 Arab countries. By end of year 2016, the expected number of active submarine cable systems will reach 53, compared to 42 active submarine cable systems by November 2015. The report does not cover Domestic submarine cables, nor out of service cable systems.

The report analyses the main existing and planned submarine cable systems in the Arab world, connecting two or more countries, and provide an overview of the main cable systems connecting three or more countries, in addition to providing essential information including: the length of the cable system, vendors, owners, cost and ready for service date (RFS) for each of the covered submarine cables connecting three or more countries.

A new report, “Submarine Cable Systems in the Arab World” was released to the Arab Advisors Group’s Telecoms Strategic Research Service subscribers on December 1, 2015. The 68-page report, which has 41 detailed exhibits, analyzes the existing and planned submarine cables with current or potential landing stations in the Arab World. The twenty one Arab countries covered in the report are: Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the UAE and Yemen. The Palestinian authority was not included as it is not connected to any Arab countries.
